Lembit Opik
Former British Member of Parliament, Lembit Öpik warns those who refuse to engage in true debate that they risk writing themselves out of the policy making script What seems to be missing in this debate is a cool commitment to genuine dialogue – without which the entire issue is reduced to emotive ‘virtue signalling,’ bullying, moaning, provocation and, potentially, ‘mission paralysis.’ This paralysis happens when the actions of one or both sides in a dispute lose the confidence of the public in the subject itself, making political action in a democratic system hard or impossible. I hope those who run this new website are successful in bringing people together to share and discuss competing worldviews about climate change and some related matters. It’s important we get this right, and that can only happen if we explain why we hold the views we do and listen to those who hold other views.

The cost of implementing Net Zero policies to the UK economy; .i.e., to its taxpayers, is £3 trillion. This is £100,000 per household, or equivalent to annually funding a £100Bn HS2-scale project every year for the next three decades, for no tangible benefit.

The 40,000-deaths figure that’s now widely reported, broadly unquestioned, across the media is because of the use of that word ‘premature.’ In fact, the figures are bogus in that nobody could credibly claim there is any methodology to make the sorts of statements which have been made about such a miniscule drop in life expectancy. As such, while reducing pollution is desirable for many reasons, the unmitigated attack on road users is not validly based on any health data.
